Pace Edwards Roll Top and Jackrabbit Tonneau

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

This is a quote I received on a question I asked on a truck forum.

“I have had two pace edwards covers. The first one I owned (a roll top) was on a 1986 jeep comanche custom they don’t list one for that truck. I was able to get one made special for me. The cover ended up lasting longer then the truck did. I believe the guy I sold it to still has it on his truck. Cover number two ( a jack rabbit ) I got for my dodge 2500 SB pickup I have had that on for over a year now and it still work as well as the day I got it. I found the one I have now that is on my dodge at truckaccessoryplace.com they included the price of the rails and shipping.”

Both the Bedlocker tonneau cover and the Roll-N-Lock tonneau are a retractable type of tonneau cover. They are expensive. But they have got more advantages than any other truck bed covers. They provide more security when compared to other covers made of fabrics such as roll up, soft hinged and folding tonneaus .The Roll-N-Lock cover is a retractable type tonneau cover. There are two series of Roll-N-Lock cover available on the market. They are the standard M series and the electric E series. M stands for Manual and E stands for Electronic. A person can choose any cover from these two series.

Both, M series and E series covers can be locked. Most pickup truck owners prefer E series as the cover can be operated with the help of a remote. E series covers have also got an emergency release handle and automatic light. The door closes or opens in 9 seconds when you use the remote. The emergency release handle is provided for manual operation which would come in handy in a power loss situation.

    Roll-N-Lock Tonneau Cover Review

    Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

This Roll-N-Lock tonneau cover review will help you make a decision if this truck bed cover is for you. It is of the retractable tonneau cover class and gives you the option of the standard M series or the electric E series cover. The E series opens and closes with a remote control which can be very convenient. Both series are lockable.

For those of you who are not sure what a retractable tonneau cover is, I will give a brief description in this Roll-N-Lock tonneau cover review.

A retractable truck bed cover is a tonneau cover which is usually made of slats that are hinged together to allow it to roll up behind the cab into a canister that house it. It usually glides along rails that are made for the purpose which now usually clamp along the rails of the truck bed.

Water is deflected off the cover and into channels of the tonneau cover rails. There are drainage tubes which are routed to discard any water that enters the canister outside your cargo area.

Although this type of truck bed cover is rather expensive it has great advantages over roll up covers such as much more security for you cargo as well as quick easy access to your cargo area.

You will not have to unsnap, unpeel or unseal Velcro to get access to your truck bed.

An advantage of this cover over hard tonneau covers is the fact that you have most of your cargo area at your convenience when the need to carry cargo that is higher than your truck rails.

Although the M series is a great cover that also will improve the look of any pickup truck as well as security for your cargo, the E series, electric model would even be much more convenient when it comes time to open your cover with your arms full.

There is also a release handle added allowing the cover to be used manually in case of power failure such as a dead battery. Although this model is a more expensive, the convenience and not to mention the looks you will get will be worth the extra money.

I hope this Roll-N-Lock Tonneau Cover Review will help you make a decision if this retractable cover is right for you. For more information check out Roll-N-Lock Tonneau Cover

Full Metal Jackrabbit Tonneau Cover Review

    Monday, August 4th, 2008

First of all, let’s start off by letting you know what a Full Metal Jackrabbit Tonneau Cover is exactly. Not everyone knows, there are a lot of people who are not familiar with this truck bed cover. This is a retractable tonneau cover also known as a roll top tonneau cover. The cover has tracks that go on each side of your pickup truck bed for the cover to travel in.

It has a canister that goes at the front of your pickup box below your cabs rear window. The canister is the part of the retractable system which the tonneau cover itself retracts in and out of. This basically is how the retractable or roll top cover is designed. Different covers have some different features. I will now describe the Full Metal Jackrabbit and let you know about some of it’s features.

Pace Edwards say that their Full Metal Jackrabbit Tonneau Cover is designed and manufactured for an exact fit on each make, model and year pickup truck that they produce the cover for. They say that the design of the cover has a cleaner, sleeker look than traditional roll-up tonneau covers. Of course as with all other tonneau covers there is less wind resistance at the tailgate, improving gas mileage.

The Full Metal Jackrabbit tonneau cover is constructed of all metal which is powder coated and the aluminum panels are linked together with hinges that do not collect debri. This lid rides flush along your truck,s bed rails that gives it a nice low-profile sleek look. The continuous tension spring allows smooth operation with less pulling force when closing. This cover has a “Latch ‘n Lok” system that enables you to bolt the cover at the tailgate or every 12 inches along the track of the tonneau. The canister is made of ABS making it lightweight, rustproof and dent proof.

This covers requires no drilling to install. You install it with clamps. The tonneau is made in the USA and backed by a 3 year warranty.

Some of the advantages of this tonneau cover would be the fuel savings by allowing the wind to pass over your tailgate rather than smacking into it causing a drag and an increase in gas consumption. The cover also protects your cargo from the high winds caused by driving and protects your cargo from the weather. It deters thieves with it’s locking system as well as keeping your cargo out of sight, out of mind. It adds a great look to your pickup truck. And I have to mention the 3 year warranty which is a real plus compared other retractable tonneau covers.

Another great advantage that comes to mind is being able to get at your truck bed quickly and easily, not by just lifting the cover up but by retracting ahead, completely out your way. Some of the disadvantages that I got from customer reviews would be maybe a slight sag in the cover. Instructions that are with it may be a little vague but can be managed with a little common sense. The price tag is a little high.

All in all the Full Metal Jackrabbit Tonneau Cover is a very nice looking retractable truck bed cover. I think this cover will protect your cargo as well as any roll top pickup covers and better than most. I hope this little article will help you decide if this tonneau cover is for you.

    Jackrabbit Tonneau Cover Review

    Sunday, July 13th, 2008

This Jackrabbit Tonneau Cover Review will help you decide if this retractable truck bed cover is what your looking for.

The Jackrabbit tonneau cover by Pace Edwards is a retractable tonneau or as some may call a roll top. To briefly describe what a retractable cover is I will try to give you a rough idea. The tonneau itself is made from aluminum panels, which in this case are laminated with a water resistant padded polymer. It has sort of a leather look. The frame is powder coated aluminum.

The cover slides in tracks which extend from front to back along your truck bed rails. It rolls up into a canister which is located at the front of your truck box, below the cab rear window. This particular model has the option of stopping every 12 inches along its route so you don’t have to open or close the cover all the way. Water is directed from the cover to the side rails and through drain hoses to the canister and then through drain hose out through small holes in plugs in your truck box.

This cover has been purchased many times and most people loved what they received. Some say it was easy to install others say, actually most said the instructions sucked. Some give advice to read the instructions all the way through, then read them again, while others say make sure you have all the parts then throw the instructions away so you don’t get confused. All in all, customers for this cover did the installation themselves and were rewarded with many compliments for a great looking tonneau cover.

If you have a bed liner you will probably have to do some modifications to install this cover. Usually where the canister sits is a likely place for changes to your bed liner. From what I read I would get some help installing the cover so you don’t end up scratching your truck and just to make the installation a whole lot easier. I have read, a middle age woman installed it herself with little problem. I guess being mechanically incline will help.

A lot of people say their truck bed stays dry while other complained about water getting in between the tailgate and the cover. Just off the top of my head, maybe some extra stick-on weather stripping may help as it does on some other tonneau covers.

Even with lousy directions and water leakage this cover has been highly regarded for its operation and looks.

I hope this Jackrabbit Tonneau Cover Review has helped you in your decision on whether or not this retractable truck bed cover is right for you and your pickup truck.

    American Roll Tonneau Cover Review

    Monday, June 23rd, 2008

This tonneau cover was designed and built to fit your specific make, model and year pickup truck. Made in the USA by a man “with a working mans PHD”

Truck Covers USA boasts this retractable tonneau cover to have the smallest canister on the market sizing in at 8”x 8”.They say that this truck bed cover has double- walled panels and can support over 500 pounds. That’s a whopping quarter ton plus.

The American roll is tension driven and has stop and lock points at every 12 inches which comes in handy when carrying different loads. It has a textured black powder coat finish which is very tough and durable.

Dirt is kept out of the side rails and canister with the aid of high quality automotive grade wool and brushes. This is where some retractable tonneau covers have a problem.

This is a clamp on tonneau cover with a minimum drilling of holes for the drain tubes of the canister as is for other retractable tonneau covers. They say it can be installed within 2 hours. From what I read it can be any where from a half hour to three and a half hours. Truck covers USA designed and manufactured the clamps themselves especially for this cover. This cover is backed by a 2 year warranty which is a real plus for a retractable tonneau cover. I must say, this is a nice looking tonneau cover.

People who have installed this cover said they have done it quite easily. It only takes a few common tools. You may need some help lifting the canister into place but after that the rest should be a breeze. If you have a bed liner you will probably have to make some cuts in the liner where the clamps need to go and again at the tailgate where the lock of the tonneau cover ends up. No big problem though. If you open and close the cover a lot you may find having to unlock the cover a bit of a pain. This cover locks automatically. It’s great for a fifth wheel. A quite of few people have commented on how strong the cover is.

As is with other retractable tonneau covers you may get slight leakage with a lot of water. I must say that this has to be my favorite manual retractable tonneau cover. Lets just go over some of the good points. It will save you gas - it will deter thieves by keeping things out of sight out of mind not to mention the added locking system which is one of the better locks on tonneau covers today – the American roll will allow you to use your truck bed for tall loads without removing the cover – Easy installation – the cover will stop every twelve inches to accommodate your load - It comes with a 2 year warranty.

Now some of the negative points. May have slight leakage in heavy rain – You need to unlock the cover every time you use it – If you have a bed liner you may have to cut small sections of it for the clamps.

Now you decide if the American Roll tonneau cover is the cover you want for your truck bed and to protect your belongings.

Just take the time to think yourself, and imagine how many times having a truck bed cover that opens with a remote control would come in handy. You would need a pretty big piece of paper to list all the times it would be useful.

Some of the regular tonneau cover benefits include such things as better gas mileage, protection for your cargo from the weather and also protection from thieves for your cargo. Retractable Tonneau Covers

    Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

Retractable tonneau covers are a highly sought after tonneau cover on the market today. The price range on these tonneau covers are among the highest for tonneau covers but with good reason.

They are usually manufactured with aluminum panels. Some are painted with a very durable powder coat finish. This is a very tough paint system which holds up to protect the tonneau from the elements. Others have a powder coated frame and hardware but the aluminum slats or panels are laminated with weather proof padded polymer to give the cover a leather look.

All these retractable tonneau covers glide along rails which are usually clamped along the top of the truck box rails. The cover rolls up into a canister which is located behind the cab of the pickup truck. The cover usually has spring tension on it to help with opening and closing the tonneau.

They are constructed to withstand a snow-load and water is directed into the side-rails and then to the canister and out of your truck box through drain hoses. They pretty much have the same basic design.

These retractable tonneau covers really look sharp on the back of a pickup truck and save you fuel at the pumps. They are pretty lightweight and allow the wind to pass over them rather than hitting against the tailgate causing a drag.

They protect your cargo from thieves in a couple of ways. They usually lock at the back to protect your cargo from thieves and they also just keep your cargo out of the eyes of people who like to take things that don’t belong to them. The hidden factor alone is a great asset for the tonneau cover owner.

The retractable tonneau covers also protects your cargo from weather conditions such as rain and snow. Your cargo is also protected from ripping winds caused from higher speeds. This is especially great if you are carrying delicate cargo such as plants. These covers are great when you need to carry larger, taller loads as you can open them up very quickly and easily giving you complete access to your truck bed.

If you are looking for a tonneau cover that opens and closes easily, looks great, saves fuel, has locking capability, completely opens for complete access to your truck bed, maybe you should have a look at the retractable tonneau covers.
