Pickup Truck Hard Covers

datePosted on 09:04, July 28th, 2010 by Brian Fuller

Numerous pickup truck owners are searching for the security that Pickup Truck Hard Covers will offer their cargo. Not only is protection from thieves crucial but from the weather is important as well. Afterall, you wouldn’t want cherished cargo drifting around below your tonneau cover without realizing it until you got to your destination. Especially if it is a delivery to a customer.

Hard truck bed covers usually come in two categories, a hinged type and a folding type. The hinged type are fabricated of a variety of different materials. Fiberglass is a favourite which is commonly painted to duplicate the pickup truck’s factory finish code. They look very astute and are of the most weather tight. Security is very good with these truck covers as you need to lift the cover to open the tailgate. The cover itself is lockable. Some of these pickup truck hard covers have the alternative of adding a wing also noted as a spoiler to contribute a flashier aspect to the truck.

Also in the hinged type pickup truck hard covers there are some that are on hand fabricated of different plastics and polymer’s that are a little more affordable than the fiberglass tonneau covers. Some of these hold the asset of being removed in seconds unlike the heavier fiberglass tonneau covers.

The Folding type pickup truck hard covers hold the asset of carrying cargo that is higher than the sides of the truck box. Many pickup owners favor the folding truck bed cover sort because of the usability element. They are quicker than the roll ups and offer more security. Easy admittance and the power to use their total truck box is why they are such a front-runner. A lot of these are not lockable but their latch to open them are below the truck bed cover so the tailgate must be lowered to unfastened them. If you add an aftermarket tailgate lock you have a very secured cargo area.

The tailgate lock has the advantage over a lock on the top side of the tonneau cover in the winter. The locks on top of  pickup truck hard covers will get dampness in them frequently making them really tough to operate. Realistically there are problems like this with any product you purchase. Whichever truck bed cover you select I am certain you will be happy with it.

Hard Tonneau Cover-Different Types

datePosted on 22:48, March 23rd, 2010 by Brian Fuller

The first type of hard tonneau cover I will mention is the fibreglass type truck cover. The fibreglass bed covers belong to the hinged type tonneau. These are great looking lids that are usually painted to match the truck. Some of the advantages of this type of cover include things such as they offer greater security than the roll up tonneaus. These fibreglass hard tonneau covers are also great to protect your cargo from the weather. Keeping your cargo dry is a great comfort when you own a pickup truck. They open easily from the tailgate and lift up like a trunk cover with the aid of two gas struts. Some of the disadvantages of the fibreglass covers include such things as the higher cost. They are also heavy and hard to remove if you are suddenly in the need to haul larger cargo.

Next hard tonneau cover I will fill you in on is still of the hinged type which opens from the rear of the truck like a truck cover. The Undercover tonneau cover is constructed from an ABS type plastic. It is much like the fibreglass tonneaus but weighs far less and easily comes off and back on with quick release pins. This cover is also a good weather protector as well as great to secure your cargo from thieves. They do have two models to choose from, the original and the Undercover SE model.

Another hinged type hard tonneau cover is the TiltBak Tonneau Cover by Bak. This is a one piece cover weighing around 45 pounds but can carry over 500 pounds on top of it. The stake holes are left open like no other hinged truck cover. This allows you to use tie downs or bed rails that you can secure your cargo. The top of this cover is made with a TPO plastic which is very impact, ding and scratch resistant. It has a diamond plate rugged look. The underneath is made of abs type plastic and the core is filled with high density foam. There seem to be a lot of positives with this cover.

Now we are going to get away from the hinged type and introduce you to the Folding type hard tonneau cover. These give you fast easy access to your cargo area and offer great security as well. Many pickup truck owners favour this type of cover because of the use-ability factor. Some of the major competitors of this type include the Solid Fold by Extang and both the Bakflip G2 and the Bakflip HD and Bakflip F1 by Bak.

That’s my take on the hard tonneau cover. I hope it enlightens you on the different types available. One thing they all have in common is the security factor. Some lock on top of the cover others such as the Tiltbak the opening latch is under the cover away from the weather. You would have to add a locking tailgate handle to add even more security.

Ford Ranger Tonneau Cover Review

datePosted on 08:46, March 20th, 2010 by Brian Fuller

I created this Ford Ranger Tonneau Cover review because there is something you should know when looking to purchase a Ford Ranger truck cover. Take your time to think about how and what you use your truck for. Quarter tons such as the Ford Ranger have limited space in the cargo area. If you need to haul items such as sheets of plywood or other similar cargo, you won’t be able to with most hinged truck covers such as the fibreglass type because the gas shocks that hold up the cover get in the way. Now I am not saying if you are looking for a Ford Ranger tonneau cover that the hinged truck covers are no good. You just need to think about what you use the truck for before you buy. If you don’t use your truck for bigger cargo then a hinged cover is fine and the fibreglass lids look terrific painted up to match the truck.

If you do use your truck for larger cargo, you can use this Ford Ranger Tonneau Cover review you to see there are many alternatives for a Ford Ranger truck cover. There are other categories to choose from away from the hinged truck cover. There are lots of roll ups, folding covers and even retractable tonneau covers. Your choices are many. They all have there own advantages and disadvantages.

I remember when I first saw a roll up truck cover on a pickup truck. My first thoughts were what a pain in the butt if you have to take that thing off every time you use your cargo area. Now that I am much more educated on these covers my thoughts are more like what a great idea. Most of these covers roll up in seconds allowing you full access to your cargo area. Even the bows that support the tarp roll up with the tarp causing no problem what so ever.

More and more people are putting truck bed covers on their trucks. When you place one on your Ranger you won’t be alone. The advantages are numerous. I don’t have to remind you about the price of fuel these days. Although vehicle manufacturers are making trucks lighter than years ago and engine performance is a long way from where it use to be. This all helps to save fuel consumption but we are still looking for ways to help save fuel. Purchasing a Ford Ranger truck cover will help on the aerodynamics of your Ranger and allow the wind to pass over your truck instead of meeting resistance at your tailgate. The more you drive, especially at higher speeds such as highway driving, the more you will save.

Now fuel savings isn’t the only advantage of installing a truck cover on your truck. Another reason for writing this Ford Ranger Tonneau Cover Review is to show you that these covers are great to keep the weather off your cargo. That may be reason enough to purchase one. There is also security for your cargo to think about. Although the hard hinged covers, the hard folding covers, and the retractables all have locking mechanisms on them for added security, the roll ups add a great amount of security just by keeping your cargo out of sight. Looks alone will impress anyone enough to buy a Ford Ranger tonneau cover.

A tonneau cover can provide you with a secure place to store your cargo. Whether you are looking for a dry place to secure your cargo or a safe place to hide your cargo from thieves, a truck cover will provide you with both.

Some tonneau covers have locks and some do not but even the ones that have no locks keep your cargo safer from thieves. They will not usually bother taking the chance on looking under a tonneau cover when they have no idea if there is anything valuable under it. If they can’t see it they won’t want it.

When someone looked at a tonneau cover a few years back they might think “Those truck bed covers would make getting your cargo in and out of your truck bed too hard to get at.” Now you can get some truck covers that give you very easy access to your cargo area. These include tonneau covers such as the retractable type, the hinged tonneau and the folding truck bed cover. Even some of the roll up covers roll up very quickly with the bows to give you quick access to your cargo area.

A tonneau cover can save you gas especially if you do a lot of highway driving. It will make your truck much more aerodynamic. With much less wind resistance you will save quite a bit on fuel over the long haul. Not to mention the great look it adds to your pickup truck.

There are many different tonneau covers to choose from. From the lower cost roll up truck bed covers to the more expensive retractable covers and the fiberglass hinged tonneau cover. A personal favorite of mine is the Extang Trifecta soft folding truck cover. This particular cover comes at a very reasonable price and will give you very fast and easy access to your truck bed. You just open your tailgate and unlatch the cover and fold it up towards the cab. It folds up in three sections and if you want more security just add an aftermarket tailgate lock.

You can see the trifecta and many more as well, by visiting my website below. You will also find information, reviews and tips on how to pick the proper tonneau cover for you and your truck. I am always glad to help you choose the right truck cover for your particular needs.

A Tonneau Cover can be a great asset to your truck. Keep your cargo safe from thieves and harsh weather. Check different types out as well as get information, reviews and tips on choosing a proper truck cover.

Tonneau Cover

A tonneau cover has such advantages as saving on fuel consumption, protecting your cargo from weather conditions such as rain, snow, too much sun etc., Protecting your cargo from theft.

The price of fuel has everyone feeling its effect. Trucks are known to burn more than their fare share of fuel. If you own a truck, you know what I am talking about. You can use all the help you can get. A tonneau cover can save a lot of fuel dollars by making your truck much more areodynamic. This should really get you thinking about purchasing a tonneau cover.

It really sucks when you have something in your truck box and you need it, the truck bed is filled with snow and you have to dig it out. A tonneau cover will assure that the cargo stays in your cargo area and the snow stays out. This makes searching for something in your truck bed as pleasant as possible.

Although a tonneau cover may not have a lock built on it, the truck bed cover may still protect your cargo from theft, just by having it covered up and out of the vision of a possible thief. Out of sight, out of mind, so to speak. Thieves won’t usually go out of their way to search under every tonneau cover they come across. This would cause too much suspicion to themselves. Just by keeping your cargo covered up will much improve your chances of keeping your cargo.
